Youth of the Year

Established in 1947, Youth of the Year is BGCA’s premier recognition program for Club members, promoting service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. The program is most effective when used as a year-round tool for fostering young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities.

A Youth of the Month is selected by the staff each month at all Clubs.  The Youth of the Month is a member who consistently meets the Club Expectations of Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect the Club, and Have Fun! This member participates fully in Club activities. The Youth of the Month sets a good example and serves as a role model to fellow Club members.
  Clubs recognize members ages 6 to 18 as Youth of the Month winners and select a Youth of the Year (ages 14-18 to compete), who then participates in BGCA state competitions. Youth of the Year winners will compete for college scholarships awarded by national sponsors.

Junior Staff Volunteer
Junior Staff program assists Club members ages 13 to 18 in exploring a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work. Young people prepare for future roles as human services professionals by participating in career development activities, discovering the importance of community service, building customer service skills and completing a Club apprenticeship. The program develops Club members’ interpersonal skills, work ethic and sense of community responsibility.
  • Junior Staff are required to attend  the club a minimum of 3 days a week for at least 2 hours a day.  
  •  They are selected by an interview process each April.
  •  If selected, an annual membership fee of $25 is due at time of enrollment. 
  •  Jr. Staff are required to attend training the last week of May in order to participate in the program each year.
Jr Staff Applications are accepted from February 1st to March 30th.
